■ Hanatoh Co. Ltd.

In 1983 Hanatoh was established in today's Nishiasakusa san-chome. While Totaro Sakurai, the first master, had a ceremonial flower business, he also sold paper lanterns at the same time.
The name "Hanato" is taken from his own name and business he ran. After the WW2, Ikuo, the second master, moved their family business to the current location in Hisago street shopping mall and it was at this time, when their products changed from ceremonial flowers to specialized paper lanterns. Masao, the third master, established Hanatoh Co. Ltd. in December 1987, completely specializing in paper lanterns.
Since Kokugikan, the National Sumo Park, moved from Kuramae to Ryogoku 24 years ago, we are honored to be in charge of writing the letters used for the frame, which is awarded to the Sumo champion and displayed in Kokugikan.
